Pi Network is making significant strides toward its highly anticipated mainnet launch by completing the Testnet1 upgrade to protocol version 23. This upgrade represents the final phase before the transition to mainnet, which will only happen after Testnet2 also upgrades to the same version.
The phased upgrade approach, which has seen the network move through earlier versions 19 to 22, aims to enhance system stability and scalability. While some short service interruptions may occur during this transition, users will be notified in advance.
The recent upgrade on Testnet1 successfully transitioned from protocol version 19 to version 22, and now the shift to version 23 is underway, solidifying the technical groundwork needed for mainnet activation. Testnet2 is expected to follow a similar path to ensure that its systems are aligned with Testnet1.
This comprehensive update involves various technical improvements across the blockchain’s core structure and its API systems, focusing on preparing the platform for real-world applications. Enhancements made during the upgrade are intended to improve speed and minimize the risk of downtime. Testnet1 has previously been utilized to test fundamental chain functions, which makes it well-equipped for the final test upgrade. Once the upgrade to version 23 is complete, efforts will shift towards ensuring the mainnet is fully prepared for launch.
The introduction of version 23 features enhancements in consensus handling, transaction processing, and data communication between network nodes. These upgrades are crucial for enabling the Pi blockchain to handle large transaction volumes without delays or failures, improving the overall efficiency of the network. Network validators and developers are currently testing this updated setup to address any bugs prior to transitioning to the mainnet.
An essential part of the upgrade is the ongoing mapping of user balances from Testnet to mainnet, ensuring users will retain their assets once the network is fully operational.
In conjunction with these technical upgrades, the timing aligns closely with Stellar’s recent transition to version 23. Given that Pi Network is built on Stellar’s codebase, maintaining compatibility is critical for the network’s long-term security.
Beyond technical developments, Pi Network has been proactive in expanding its visibility and ecosystem. As a gold sponsor of the TOKEN2049 conference scheduled for October 1–2, 2025, in Singapore, co-founder Dr. Chengdiao Fan is set to speak at the event, which is expected to enhance the network’s exposure.
Additionally, the launch of a DeFi farming game, PiOnline, on the Pi Browser illustrates the network’s drive to diversify its application ecosystem, especially in the gaming sector.
