San Francisco experienced another significant power outage on Sunday night, affecting thousands of residents served by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). Around 7:45 p.m., the utility’s website reported that more than 11,000 customers had lost electricity. Fortunately, by 11 p.m., power was restored to all impacted areas.
The outage primarily affected neighborhoods including Richmond, Golden Gate Park, and the Presidio. PG&E attributed the disruption to a failure of overhead equipment. This incident marked a continuation of a series of outages that occurred throughout the preceding week as a winter storm swept through the city, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. At one point, over 130,000 PG&E customers were without power during this storm.
On the previous day, Saturday, PG&E reported a smaller outage that affected approximately 6,000 customers in the Golden Gate Park area. Residents in these neighborhoods have been coping with ongoing power issues, compounded by the harsh winter weather conditions.
As the city navigates these challenges, many are left questioning the reliability of the electrical infrastructure amidst increasingly severe weather events.
