At this time, it remains unclear whether any tickets matched the winning numbers from Saturday’s drawing. Matt Strawn, chair of the Powerball Product Group and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, remarked on the significance of this jackpot, stating, “This jackpot is set to deliver the ultimate windfall.” Notably, this drawing marks the 45th consecutive event without a jackpot winner, setting a record for the longest stretch in Powerball history. The last winning jackpot occurred on September 6, when a staggering $1.787 billion was claimed by winners in Missouri and Texas.
In the previous drawing held on Wednesday, which had a jackpot of $1.14 billion, no winning tickets were sold. Participants must match all five white balls along with the red Powerball to win the grand prize. A single jackpot winner can choose to receive a lump sum payment estimated at $686.5 million or an annuity, structured as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that swell by 5% each year. Despite the allure of the jackpot, the odds of snagging the top prize remain grim at 1 in 292.2 million.
Powerball has seen a surge in jackpot sizes over the past decade, and drawings occur three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 11 p.m. ET. The game originally launched in 1992, and its popularity has only grown since. In 2022, a record-setting jackpot of $2.04 billion was claimed by a single ticket sold in Altadena, California, the largest in both Powerball and overall lottery history.
