LANSING, MI — The Powerball lottery continues to capture the attention of players as the grand prize has surged to an impressive $1.1 billion for the upcoming drawing. This escalation follows the results of the latest drawing held on Saturday, Dec. 13, where no player emerged as the winner of the $1.05 billion jackpot. This latest sum marks the sixth largest jackpot in the history of the Powerball game.
The winning numbers from the Dec. 13 drawing were 1-28-31-57-58, with the Powerball being 16 and a Power Play of 2. Although no one won the grand prize, seven lucky tickets each secured at least $1 million. These winning tickets were purchased across various states, including California, Florida, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Notably, players in North Carolina and Pennsylvania who opted for the Power Play option saw their winnings double to $2 million.
In total, 3,020,795 tickets were sold in the Dec. 13 drawing, with 93,755 of those sold in Michigan winning at least $4. Powerball is accessible in 45 states, alongside Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, where players select five white numbers ranging from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. Each ticket comes at a cost of $2.
As anticipation builds for the next drawing on Monday, Dec. 15, players are encouraged to stay updated through the official Michigan Lottery site, which offers detailed information about instant tickets, raffles, and additional lottery games.
Michigan has experienced substantial jackpots in the past, with the most recent notable win coming from the Breakfast Club lottery club, which claimed an $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members of this group intend to invest their winnings in a home in Florida and indulge in travel.
However, the excitement surrounding winning can also lead to reminders of the importance of checking tickets promptly. In a recent incident, a Powerball ticket worth $250,000 sold in Bloomfield Hills in 2024 went unclaimed, ultimately directing the funds to Michigan’s School Aid Fund.
As the community gears up for the next drawing and the stakes continue to rise, players are reminded that fortune could be just a ticket away.
