Remedy Entertainment has unveiled an exciting glimpse into the highly awaited sequel to its critically acclaimed game, Control. Titled “Control Resonant,” this new installment is set to build upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, introducing players to a rich action-RPG framework. Taking place seven years after the events of the original, the sequel transitions from the eerie confines of the Oldest House to the bustling streets of a more expansive Manhattan, where players will step into the shoes of Dylan Faden, the brother of Control’s main character, Jesse.
In a dramatic turn of events, Dylan has spent years in confinement under the watchful gaze of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). As the game begins, he is thrust into a world turned chaotic by a mysterious cosmic entity that has begun to alter the very fabric of reality. It is Dylan’s mission to combat these supernatural threats, mastering newly acquired powers and navigating the challenges that arise as he seeks to find his sister, Jesse Faden, the FBC Director. This journey will force him to confront the dangers that have escaped the Oldest House, threatening to tear the world apart.
Originally referred to as Control 2, the new title reflects a design philosophy that encourages flexibility in gameplay. According to creative director Mikael Kasurinen, players can enjoy the two titles in any order, adding to the accessibility of the storyline. Kasurinen described “Resonant” as “not a safe sequel,” emphasizing Remedy’s commitment to innovative experiences. “We like doing new things,” he stated during a press briefing.
A notable shift in gameplay mechanics is the introduction of a shapeshifting melee weapon. Though specific details about the enemies Dylan will face remain under wraps, Remedy has intentionally avoided using familiar terms associated with the original, such as “hiss,” indicating a fresh take on the foes players will encounter.
While “Resonant” is not strictly an open-world game, it is being positioned as Remedy’s most ambitious project to date. Kasurinen remarked on the enhanced scale of the game, promising an elevated experience in combat, exploration, and storytelling that surpasses anything the studio has previously accomplished. “It’s ambitious, a little wild, and we can’t wait for players to get lost in it,” he added.
Looking ahead, “Control Resonant” is poised to play a pivotal role in Remedy Entertainment’s strategy for revitalizing its position in the gaming landscape. Although a specific launch date has yet to be announced, the game is expected to release in 2026 across multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox, PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), and Mac (via Steam and the App Store). As anticipation builds, fans are eager to see how Dylan Faden’s story unfolds in this thrilling sequel.
