Rookie right tackle Armand Membou has rapidly established himself as a crucial component of the New York Jets’ offensive line, with his performance speaking volumes about his potential. His connection with quarterback Brady Cook, whom he protected during their collegiate years at Missouri, has come into focus as Cook prepares for what could be his first start in the NFL this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Membou expressed confidence in Cook’s capabilities as he anticipates his former teammate stepping onto the field once again. “I just think he’s going to be Brady Cook, he’s going to do his thing,” Membou stated, highlighting the anticipation surrounding Cook’s opportunity to lead against a tough Jaguars squad, which currently holds the top spot in the AFC South with a record of 9-4.
Since being drafted, Membou has made a significant impact on the Jets’ line, starting all 13 games and playing every offensive snap, totaling 803 plays. His performance has been a cornerstone of a unit that has remained injury-free throughout the season, an unusual feat for NFL offensive lines. The only team to field the same starting five players consistently, Membou credits this stability to the synergy developed among his teammates: Olu Fashanu, John Simpson, Josh Myers, and Joe Tippmann. “It’s been such a blessing that we’ve all been able to stay healthy and play these past 13, 14 games together,” he remarked, noting the growth in chemistry and communication among the line.
Cook, 24, had his first taste of NFL action last week after veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor sustained a groin injury early in the game against Miami. Elevated from the practice squad due to Justin Fields’ knee issues, Cook stepped up under pressure. Membou praised his composure during a challenging situation, saying, “We had a lot of adversity that hit us during the game, but I think he just stayed really levelheaded and poised… I had full confidence in him though.”
As Cook prepares for his potential starting role, many are optimistic about what he can bring to the field. His ability to command the huddle and maintain his composure will be put to the test against the formidable Jaguars.
