Simon Cowell has been quite open about his journey with cosmetic enhancements and wellness treatments, revealing a mix of regrets and lessons learned along the way. The music mogul, best known as a judge on the hit show “American Idol,” shared that he has undergone various procedures over the years, including Botox and fillers. In a candid admission during an April 2022 interview with The Sun, he expressed regret over a phase when he may have taken cosmetic work too far, stating, “I saw a picture of me from ‘before’ the other day, and didn’t recognize it as me.”
These days, Cowell emphasizes maintaining his appearance through a combination of a healthy diet, regular exercise, and some unconventional wellness treatments. He talked about the importance of authenticity in his looks, reflecting, “I look at myself sometimes and go, ‘Oh God, I look s—-.’ Sometimes I think I look okay.” His openness extends to denying rumors of having undergone a facelift, although he has admitted to using Botox and undergoing various laser treatments.
Among his more controversial health practices, Cowell has experimented with blood-filtering treatments, likening the experience to “going into Frankenstein’s laboratory.” He described the procedure, conducted at a wellness clinic in Spain, as “really painful” but worth it for its supposed ability to detoxify the blood. “I’m now a great believer of — age from the inside rather than the surface,” he remarked, suggesting that he prioritizes internal health over external appearances.
However, the efficacy of such blood treatments remains questionable, with little scientific research backing their claims. Other celebrities, like Orlando Bloom, have also stepped into the realm of blood “cleaning,” further popularizing the trend, despite a lack of compelling evidence regarding its benefits.
Cowell’s adventurous approach to personal care once extended to contemplation of cryonics, the practice of preserving bodies at ultra-low temperatures. He initially entertained the idea of freezing himself for potential revival in the future. But after becoming a father, his perspective shifted dramatically. He humorously reflected on the potential for being revived as a robot after being told about the realities of the process, stating, “Forget it.”
Becoming a father has notably influenced his choices surrounding cosmetic treatments. He discontinued the use of facial fillers after a particularly eye-opening experience involving his son, Eric, who reacted with horror at his father’s appearance, calling him “something out of a horror film.” Since that moment, Cowell has committed to a filler-free face, saying, “There is no filler in my face at all now. Zero.”
Since moving away from less natural enhancements, he has taken a more holistic approach to health, attributing improvements in his well-being to increased exercise, reduced stress, and a focus on nutrition. His lifestyle shift has been further motivated by a serious e-bike accident in 2020 that resulted in a broken back, leading him to reevaluate his fitness level and overall health. Reflecting on this period, he noted, “I didn’t know how unfit I was until I had to do all this stuff afterwards… Things like that, I believe happened for a reason.”
Cowell continues to share his journey, embodying a blend of candidness about past mistakes and a proactive approach to health and wellness.
