Thanksgiving Day has arrived, offering a time for individuals to come together with friends and family, share festive meals, and express gratitude for the blessings in their lives. As a designated national holiday, certain businesses and services will remain closed on this special day.
One common question regarding the holiday is whether the stock market is open. Both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq Stock Market observe Thanksgiving as a federal holiday. Consequently, both markets will be closed on this day.
Looking ahead, the NYSE has announced its holiday hours for the remainder of the year. Notably, markets will close early at 1 p.m. ET on the following day, Friday, November 28, 2025, which occurs the day after Thanksgiving. Additionally, they will remain closed for Christmas Day, and also close early at 1 p.m. ET on December 24, 2025. Both exchanges are also scheduled to be closed on New Year’s Day.
As for the occurrence of Thanksgiving in upcoming years, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year, as established by the Almanac. In 2025, Thanksgiving will specifically fall on November 27.
It’s worth noting that Thanksgiving Day is recognized as one of the 11 federal holidays in the United States, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. As such, most federal workers, as well as many employees in the private sector, are entitled to take the day off with paid holiday time.
