Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson recently squared off in a highly anticipated face-to-face event leading up to their championship title fight scheduled for January 31 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Lopez, who will be defending his Ring and WBO junior welterweight titles, faces a formidable challenge from Stevenson, the current holder of the WBC lightweight title.
During the kickoff press conference, Lopez expressed confidence in his ability to adapt and evolve for each fight. “Every fight is a different version of me,” he stated. “I love it because even the people don’t know what they are going to get from me. That’s the beauty about it. [Stevenson is] not going to know until we fight.”
In response, Stevenson downplayed Lopez’s past performances, particularly against notable opponents like Vasiliy Lomachenko and Josh Taylor. He asserted that the upcoming match would showcase a different dynamic than those previous bouts. “It won’t be the type of fight he had against Vasiliy Lomachenko or Josh Taylor,” Stevenson claimed. “That was the best he could do. I don’t think he can do anything better than that. I am way better than those guys.”
Stevenson further emphasized his confidence by referencing his belief that he could have easily outperformed Lomachenko on the night they faced off. “I didn’t see Lomachenko throw punches for six rounds. I would have beaten Lomachenko that night easily, too. That’s how I feel.”
As the fight date approaches, the anticipation builds for what promises to be an electrifying match, available for viewers through DAZN pay-per-view (PPV). Fans from both sides are eager to see how this clash of titans will unfold, with each fighter bringing distinct skills and strategies into the ring.
