The Texas Longhorns are in the midst of a significant decision regarding their coaching staff following the recent dismissal of running backs coach Chad Scott, who spent just one season in Austin. This unexpected move has prompted the university to explore several candidates for the now-vacant position, a list that notably includes former Florida running backs coach Jabbar Juluke, Oregon’s Ra’Shaad Samples, and LSU’s Frank Wilson.
Reports indicate that the Longhorns have made progress in their search, with Juluke reportedly having been interviewed for the role. While it is confirmed that Juluke has met with Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian regarding the position, the specifics of whether an offer has been extended remain unclear.
Jabbar Juluke has emerged as a prominent contender for the position, and many analysts have named him the frontrunner for the job. His qualifications are substantial; he has a history of coaching some of college football’s most talented running backs. His previous stints include coaching LSU star Leonard Fournette, who made headlines with impressive stats, including 843 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in just seven games, and Derius Guice, who accumulated over 1,300 rushing yards during a standout season.
Juluke also has experience nurturing talent at Louisiana, where he coached Elijah Mitchell, who recorded 3,010 rushing yards and played a pivotal role in breaking program records in 2019. Under Juluke’s guidance, the Ragin Cajuns rushed for 3,604 yards, finishing sixth in the nation that year.
Most recently, Juluke worked with Jadan Baugh at Florida, a player he helped recruit, managing to flip him from Arkansas. In a notable matchup between Texas and Florida, Baugh showcased his abilities by rushing for 107 yards and scoring a touchdown against the Longhorns, further solidifying Juluke’s reputation as a capable coach capable of developing high-caliber players.
As the Longhorns continue their search for the right candidate, attention remains fixed on the potential outcome of their discussions with Juluke, a move that could have significant implications for the team as they prepare for the next season.
