Tyson Foods has announced significant layoffs at its Amarillo location, affecting approximately 1,700 employees. In a communication sent to NewsChannel 10, the company outlined plans to consolidate shifts at the Amarillo complex, specifically eliminating B-shift positions. Operations for the B-shift are expected to cease on or around January 20, 2026.

This decision comes amid challenging market conditions, as U.S. cattle supplies have fallen to their lowest levels in nearly 75 years, according to a report from Reuters. The Amarillo facility, which employs around 4,000 people, is responding to these shifts in the supply chain and market demands.

The news has raised concerns among workers and the community, with many anxiously awaiting further details regarding the implications of these layoffs and the future of the Amarillo complex. As Tyson Foods navigates this difficult period, the focus will be on ensuring the well-being of affected employees and managing the operational changes ahead.
