U.S. stock markets will observe a closure on Monday, May 25, in honor of Memorial Day, a federal holiday dedicated to commemorating the sacrifices of the nation’s military personnel. Both the Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will not operate on this day, resuming normal trading hours on Tuesday, May 26.

The U.S. bond market also adhered to a modified schedule, having closed early at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, May 22. This market will remain closed on Memorial Day as well. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Memorial Day is the “nation’s foremost annual day to mourn and honor its deceased service men and women,” showcasing the deep respect and gratitude held for those who have valiantly served in the military.

Following the observance of Memorial Day, Wall Street will return to standard operations, with no further scheduled closures until mid-June. The next planned market closure is set for Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States.

In addition to Memorial Day and Juneteenth, the trading calendar for the rest of the year includes several holidays. Notable closures in the coming months include Independence Day on Friday, July 3, Labor Day on Monday, September 7, Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26, and Christmas on Friday, December 25.

As the markets prepare for the Memorial Day closure, investors and analysts will be reflecting on market trends and preparing for the return to activity after the holiday.
