The long-established national furniture chain, known for its budget-friendly offerings, is set to conclude its operations as all locations of Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture will be closing their doors. With 79 Value City Furniture locations spread across 13 states and 10 American Signature Furniture outlets in 10 states, this change marks the end of an era for the retailer. Notably, there are no locations in Alabama.
The demise of the chain is tied to its parent company, Ohio-based American Signature Inc., which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2025. At that time, the company assured customers that both Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture, along with their respective websites, would remain operational. However, a recent announcement has revealed that going-out-of-business sales will commence across all remaining properties, featuring discounts of up to 50 percent on a variety of products including furniture, home décor, lighting, mattresses, and rugs.
The chain stated on its website that while operations are set to continue temporarily, efforts will be made to fulfill customer orders and provide ongoing customer service as they navigate through the court-supervised bankruptcy process. However, the retailer cautioned that it would only do its “best to fulfill customer orders for products that are currently in stock.”
For customers who have placed deposits but have not yet received their orders, the website detailed a process for filing claims related to their transactions. In a significant shift in policy, both Value City Furniture and American Signature Furniture announced that they would no longer be accepting gift cards and would not be providing refunds for orders that remain unfulfilled.
As the chain prepares to wind down its operations, the announcement has left many customers seeking clarity on their outstanding orders and financial transactions with the retailer.
