In response to an extensive snowfall that blanketed parts of West Virginia on the first school day of the week, education officials announced multiple school delays and closures across various counties.
On Tuesday, December 9, several counties reported complete closures, including Braxton, Clay, Fayette, Kanawha, and Roane. Meanwhile, a number of other counties opted for delays, allowing for additional time to manage the effects of the winter weather. The counties implementing delays include Boone, Cabell, Calhoun, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Jackson, Lewis, Lincoln, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Monroe, Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Putnam, Raleigh, Summers, Upshur, and Wayne.
Notably, Logan County took a two-pronged approach to address the inclement weather. While most schools in the county opened with a two-hour delay, both Man Elementary and Middle School were closed due to heating issues exacerbated by the severe winter weather.
