During The Game Awards, a highly anticipated reveal unfolded with the introduction of Bruce Straley’s new studio, Wildflower Interactive, and its debut game, Coven of the Chicken Foot. This unique single-player adventure features an elderly witch named Gertie and her bond with a curious creature. Together, they embark on a quest to fulfill a sacred oath, navigating a post-heroic world where dungeons sit empty and heroes have faded into memory.
What sets Coven of the Chicken Foot apart is the creature’s remarkable technology, designed to dynamically respond to player actions. As players engage with the game, the creature observes their decisions and adapts its abilities to provide tailored assistance. This interaction-centric gameplay promises to deliver a unique experience in a stylized fantasy setting filled with perilous dungeons and treacherous woods.
Instead of relying on traditional swordplay, Gertie and her companion will face danger through clever teamwork and the creature’s adaptive capabilities. Notably, the game is designed to be wordless; players will discover the story by immersing themselves in the environment and making subtle choices that influence their journey.
Wildflower Interactive, established in 2021 by the esteemed Bruce Straley, aims to redefine creative boundaries within gaming. Straley is known for his significant contributions to iconic titles such as Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and The Last of Us during his time at Naughty Dog. After stepping away from the studio in 2017, he later joined the project Chained: A Victorian Nightmare as a story consultant before founding Wildflower. Straley has emphasized the studio’s mission to create smaller yet creatively rich and uniquely stylized titles.
“We’re pushing ourselves creatively and working alongside like-minded individuals, aiming to explore innovative gaming experiences,” Straley noted in a press release, expressing his enthusiasm for Coven of the Chicken Foot. “It balances nostalgia from classic gaming with fresh approaches to storytelling and interactivity.”
Although a specific release date remains unannounced, the game is set to launch on PC through Steam, promising to take players on a captivating journey with its endearing characters and inventive gameplay mechanics.
