Winning tickets for the nearly $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot were sold in Missouri and Texas, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. The jackpot ended up at $1.787 billion, marking it the second-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
Each winning ticket holder has the option to choose between an annuitized prize of $893.5 million or a lump sum payment of $410.3 million, both amounts calculated before taxes. The excitement doesn’t end there; additional winnings include a $2 million prize from lucky tickets sold in Kansas and Texas, while 18 tickets across 13 states won $1 million each.
The winning numbers drawn were 11, 23, 44, 61, and 62, with the red Powerball number being 17. Also, a Power Play multiplier of 2 was in effect for this drawing. Following this monumental win, the jackpot resets to $20 million for the upcoming drawing on Monday.
This victory marks the end of an unprecedented stretch of 42 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, a streak that began in May. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot stand at a staggering 1 in 292.2 million.
Tickets for the game are available at $2 each in 45 states, as well as in Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s worth noting that the largest Powerball jackpot ever recorded was a jaw-dropping $2.04 billion won in California on November 7, 2022.
As this story develops, further updates are expected to provide more details regarding the winners and their next steps.
