In a significant expansion initiative, OpenAI has unveiled plans to establish five new AI data centers across the United States, collaborating with industry giants Oracle and SoftBank as part of its ambitious Stargate project. This expansion will enhance the overall network capacity of Stargate to a staggering seven gigawatts—sufficient to energize more than five million homes.

The new data centers are strategically located to diversify infrastructure and maximize efficiency. Three of the sites, developed in partnership with Oracle, will be situated in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; and an undisclosed location in the Midwest. Meanwhile, SoftBank will spearhead the development of the remaining two sites, which are planned for Lordstown, Ohio, and Milam County, Texas.

This initiative reflects OpenAI’s substantial infrastructure buildout, aimed at accommodating the increasing demands of training and serving more advanced AI models. The company recently announced a remarkable $100 billion investment from Nvidia, intended to facilitate the purchase of the chipmaker’s AI processors and support the creation of additional data centers.

With these advancements, OpenAI is positioning itself to further enhance its capabilities in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, enabling the deployment of more powerful models and fostering innovation across various sectors.
