A series of showers and storms that swept through the region over the weekend have dissipated, leaving thick clouds lingering over Savannah, Georgia, as of Monday. The overcast conditions, combined with a northerly breeze, resulted in subdued temperatures, with many areas only reaching daytime highs in the mid-50s. In fact, a few locations experienced particularly chilly conditions, where afternoon highs hovered in the 40s.
As the workweek kicks off, residents can anticipate a frigid Tuesday morning, with temperatures expected to be at or below the freezing mark. Inland areas, especially west of Interstate 95, may even dip into the upper 20s. The strong wind will exacerbate the cold, producing wind chill values that feel akin to the mid-20s early Tuesday.
The weather is set to improve slightly by Tuesday afternoon, thanks to high pressure settling over the area, resulting in a mainly sunny sky. However, daytime temperatures are still projected to only reach the upper 40s and lower 50s. As night falls, another round of cold temperatures will follow, with lows dipping into the upper 20s and lower 30s by early Wednesday morning.
Wednesday’s forecast suggests a slight warming trend, with high temperatures anticipated to be milder yet still remaining below normal, peaking in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay warm, including dressing in layers and ensuring that pets are kept indoors. It’s also recommended to safeguard any sensitive plants that may be vulnerable to the cold.
Looking ahead, milder air is expected to filter into the southeastern region by Thursday and Friday, bringing high temperatures into the mid to upper 60s. However, forecasters are predicting a cold front to approach the area on Sunday, which could bring along the potential for a few passing showers. Afternoon highs over the weekend are expected to maintain in the lower to middle 60s ahead of the incoming cold front.
