During a conversation with Kevin McCarthy on the podcast “On Film…With Kevin McCarthy,” Culkin discussed how his children, aged three and four, view the film without connecting him to the character.
He recounted a recent experience where his eldest child saw a family photo of Culkin as a young boy. Rather than recognizing his father, the child exclaimed, “That kid looks like Kevin. Who’s that?” Culkin responded with pride, revealing, “That’s me,” but the moment turned humorous when his son appeared unfazed, simply replying, “Well, anyway, okay, cool.”
Culkin reflected on the joy of being able to share his past work with his children and emphasized the importance of maintaining the magical illusion of childhood for them, akin to the myths of Santa Claus. “It’s really great that I have some of these things that I can show my kids,” he said, expressing excitement for when they are older and can enjoy other films from his career, like “Uncle Buck.”
