Phoenix Marathon Scheduled for December 13 with Road Closures Announced

The Phoenix Marathon is gearing up for a busy race day on Saturday, December 13, featuring the Main Course, Half Marathon, and 10K events. With the first race kicking off at 7 a.m., participants and spectators should prepare for a day filled with athletic spirit and community engagement.

As the marathon approaches, several road closures and traffic delays are expected in the downtown Phoenix area. Notably, the starting point for the half-marathon will affect traffic around Glendale and Central avenues, creating potential obstacles for vehicular movement in the vicinity.

Delays are also anticipated along Camelback Road, stretching from 24th to 40th Streets. This area will likely see increased congestion, particularly as participants make their way to the race start points and as spectators settle in for the event festivities.

The finish line, located near the Phoenix Municipal Stadium, is expected to experience heavy traffic flow as runners complete their races and families gather to cheer them on.

Race Start Times:
– Marathon: 7 a.m.
– Half Marathon: 7:15 a.m.
– 10K: 7:30 a.m.

Participants in the marathon will navigate a series of turns including:

– Starting south on 31st Avenue
– Right at Yorkshire Drive
– Left at 35th Avenue
– Right at Paradise Lane
– Left at 43rd Avenue
– Joining the Arizona Canal Trail at Peoria Avenue
– Right at 24th Street, then Left at Camelback Road
– Rejoining the Arizona Canal Trail at 40th Street
– A series of additional turns culminating on Priest Drive to the finish line.

The half-marathon course features its own set of twists and turns, beginning east on Glendale Avenue. Key points along the route include:

– A right at the Arizona Canal Trail at 16th Street
– Various turns through Camelback Road and Arcadia Drive
– Concluding on Priest Drive to finish.

For those participating in the 10K, the route will begin at the Arizona Canal Trail at 40th Street, with key turns leading to the finish line via Galvin Parkway and Priest Drive.

For a more in-depth look at the race routes, organizers have provided an interactive course map available online.

In addition, viewers can catch all the race day highlights and news updates through the 12+ app from 12News. This app offers access to live broadcasts and on-demand video content, making it easier for users to stay informed about local news, weather, and special segments showcasing Arizona.

The Phoenix Marathon promises to be an exhilarating event, bringing together both seasoned runners and enthusiastic participants, while creating a sense of community and celebration among attendees.
