Buckingham Palace has expressed that King Charles III is both “greatly encouraged and deeply touched” by the public’s reaction to his recent video message discussing his experience with cancer. The British monarch shared uplifting news regarding the reduction of his cancer treatment in an appearance that was part of the Stand Up For Cancer campaign, which aired on UK network Channel 4.
In the pre-recorded message, the 77-year-old King celebrated what he referred to as a “personal blessing,” attributing his progress to “early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctor’s orders.’” He highlighted the significant advancements in cancer care in recent years, reflecting on his own journey since he disclosed his diagnosis in February of the previous year, after undergoing a prostate procedure. Since then, he has been following a regimen of regular outpatient treatment.
A palace spokesperson shared insights on Saturday, noting that the response from media outlets worldwide has been met with delight and sensitivity. The spokesperson expressed gratitude for the numerous supportive messages received, particularly those from professionals in the cancer care field and the general public. They reiterated that the King would be encouraged by the outpouring of positivity elicited by his message.
In light of his diagnosis, Charles has taken on the role of patron for Cancer Research UK and has long served as a patron for Macmillan Cancer Support, a position he has maintained for nearly thirty years. The spokesperson indicated that the King is particularly satisfied that his message underscores the importance of cancer screening programs, promoting the idea that early detection can significantly impact survival rates.
The palace further emphasized the King’s belief in the importance of sharing his personal diagnosis and treatment journey if it could contribute positively to public awareness. Charles concluded his message by sending his thoughts and warmest wishes to all affected by cancer, including those who care for them. During this year’s campaign, he encouraged the public to take advantage of available cancer screening options, advocating that “early diagnosis quite simply saves lives.”
