The Powerball jackpot continues to climb, now reaching an estimated $1.6 billion following Saturday night’s drawing, which yielded no grand prize winners. The numbers drawn included 4, 5, 28, 52, and 69, with the red Powerball being 20.
This upcoming jackpot marks the fourth largest in the history of the Powerball game and stands as the fifth largest among all U.S. lottery jackpots. According to a recent announcement, excitement is palpable as players are encouraged to take a chance during this holiday season. “Powerball is giving players a chance to dream bigger than ever,” said Matt Strawn, who serves as the Powerball Product Group Chair and the CEO of the Iowa Lottery.
In addition to the potential for life-changing winnings, ticket sales contribute to significant public programs and services across communities. Strawn emphasized the importance of enjoying the game responsibly.
Players have a choice between two payout options, should they hit the jackpot on Monday night: an annuitized prize estimated at $1.6 billion or a lump sum payment amounting to approximately $735.3 million.
While no one secured the grand prize on Saturday, multiple players celebrated significant wins, with tickets sold in California, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Ohio matching all five white balls to claim $1 million each. Furthermore, the drawing produced 112 winning tickets for $50,000 prizes and 22 tickets that earned $150,000.
In another highlight, a ticket from New Jersey won a $500,000 prize by matching all five black balls in a Double Play drawing. This feature, available for a $1 add-on, allows players to replay their numbers in a separate drawing with a chance to win up to $10 million.
This latest drawing marks the second instance of attaining back-to-back jackpots exceeding $1 billion, a feat previously achieved earlier this year. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot stand at 1 in 292.2 million; however, players have better chances of winning smaller cash prizes, some starting as low as $4.
Powerball drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET, maintaining a consistent schedule that keeps players hopeful and excited about their chances.
