Oracle has begun laying off employees as part of a strategic effort to streamline costs amid challenging market conditions. Notifications were distributed to affected staff early Tuesday, indicating that the layoffs impact employees across various global locations. However, details regarding the exact number of layoffs remain unclear.

In an email notification obtained by Business Insider, the company communicated the changes to employees, stating, “After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change.” The notice made it clear that the termination of roles was effective immediately, marking the last working day for those affected.

An Oracle spokesperson, when approached for further comment, declined to provide additional information about the layoffs. The move at Oracle is part of a larger trend within the technology sector, where several major companies have adjusted their workforce amid economic pressures. For instance, in January, Amazon announced plans to eliminate around 16,000 corporate positions, following a prior reduction of 14,000 roles. More recently, Meta also initiated layoffs impacting hundreds of employees, continuing a pattern of workforce reductions that have seen thousands let go in recent years.

As of May 2025, Oracle reported a workforce of approximately 162,000 full-time employees according to its latest 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The layoff notification included vital information for outgoing employees. It thanked employees for their dedication and outlined the process for receiving a severance package, which is contingent upon the terms and conditions of the company’s severance plan. Employees were instructed to sign termination paperwork and provide a personal email address for follow-up information, including FAQs and transition documentation.

The communication stressed the urgency of this task, indicating that access to company systems, including email and files, would soon be deactivated. Employees were reminded to refrain from downloading or retaining any proprietary Oracle information following their termination.

For those looking for assistance or with further inquiries, the email directed employees to contact the Human Resources team through the designated HR page or a specific contact number, ensuring that affected staff have access to necessary resources during this transition period.
