A United Airlines flight traveling from Chicago to New York City was diverted to Pittsburgh International Airport on Saturday afternoon due to what authorities described as a “possible security issue.” The flight, United Flight 2092, landed safely around 11:45 a.m. Eastern Time after the crew reported the concern. Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides, as safety protocols were initiated.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the diversion, stating that the Boeing 737, carrying 159 passengers along with six crew members, was en route from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to LaGuardia Airport in New York City at the time of the incident. The FBI’s Pittsburgh office acknowledged awareness of the reported threat but did not disclose specific details regarding its nature.
In a subsequent statement, United Airlines informed CBS News that the emergency evacuation was prompted by a “potential security concern.” After landing in Pittsburgh, the county police bomb squad and specially trained K-9 units conducted a thorough search of the aircraft, with officials reporting negative results, indicating no immediate threat was found.
An airport spokesperson reassured that safety and security remain the top priority at Pittsburgh International Airport, highlighting the preparedness of emergency crews who quickly responded to the situation. These teams supported the evacuation process and ensured the safe transport of passengers to the terminal.
All individuals on board were able to disembark without any reported injuries. Following the incident, Pittsburgh International Airport continued its operations uninterrupted, and investigations are ongoing as the FBI looks into the matter.
