Artificial intelligence startup Cursor is reportedly in the process of raising an impressive $2 billion in a new funding round, which could elevate its valuation to over $50 billion, excluding this latest investment. This information comes from a source familiar with the negotiations, who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of the discussions.

Leading the new investment round is venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, alongside anticipated participation from tech giants Nvidia and Thrive Capital. All three firms have previously invested in Cursor, highlighting their confidence in the company’s potential to innovate within the AI coding landscape. Bloomberg News was the first to report on these significant fundraising efforts.

The funding initiative is indicative of the growing excitement within the venture capital community for startups that focus on AI coding agents—tools designed to assist users in performing a variety of software development tasks. While Cursor was among the pioneers in this sector, the competitive landscape has expanded to include major players like Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI, who have launched similar AI-driven solutions.

In November, Cursor announced the completion of a $2.3 billion funding round, which set its post-money valuation at $29.3 billion. This substantial financing followed a previous funding round of $900 million completed in June. Current investors in Cursor include notable names such as Accel, DST Global, Coatue Management, and Google, reflecting a strong backing from influential players in the tech industry.

In February, Cursor rolled out various updates aimed at enhancing the capabilities of software developers. These updates allow AI agents to test coding changes and capture their actions through videos, logs, and screenshots, potentially streamlining the development process for users.

As the discussions for this latest funding round continue, Cursor has not yet provided a response to requests for comments on the matter, leaving industry watchers eagerly anticipating further developments.
