Coinbase-backed Ethereum layer-2 network Base has successfully resumed block production following a disruption that lasted approximately two hours. The incident, which temporarily halted transaction processing on one of Ethereum’s most prominent layer-2 networks, raised concerns among users and node operators.
In a recent update, the Base team confirmed that the blockchain was back online and that internal nodes were syncing properly. However, they noted that an investigation into the underlying cause of the downtime was still ongoing. To aid in restoring normal operations, the team advised ecosystem node operators to restart their Base nodes.
The issues first became apparent at 16:03 UTC, when Base reported that the mainnet’s block production status was “unhealthy.” By 16:52 UTC, the team had pinpointed a problem and was working on various remediation strategies to address the situation.
While the exact cause of the invalid block has yet to be revealed, the network has not ruled out the possibility of a software bug or other consensus-related error. Notably, this is not the first incident affecting Base; the network also experienced an outage in August 2025.
As Base continues to monitor network stability in the aftermath of the disruption, the team has committed to providing further updates as their investigation progresses. The incident highlights the vulnerabilities that can affect blockchain networks and serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges in maintaining decentralized systems.
