Bitget has unveiled Reality, a regulated platform designed for the issuance of real-world assets (RWAs) that aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the world of cryptocurrency. This new initiative addresses a persistent dilemma in the realm of tokenized assets, which have traditionally been defined by a lack of compliance or liquidity. Reality strives to eliminate this compromise, offering a compliant yet flexible solution to asset tokenization.
As a subsidiary of Bitget, Reality is dedicated to transforming tangible assets into on-chain instruments. These instruments are designed to retain the fundamental value and characteristics of their underlying assets, while also enhancing access and usability within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem. The company collaborates with licensed brokers operating on major exchanges, such as Nasdaq and NYSE, to source the underlying securities. These assets are securely stored by independent custodians, with corresponding economic exposure issued on-chain.
The overarching vision of Reality extends beyond mere tokenization; it aims to fundamentally reimagine the operation of financial markets. Bitget envisions a future where the barriers between traditional finance and crypto dissolve, positioning tokenized assets as standard components of the financial system rather than niche offerings.
Initially focusing on stocks, Reality is designed for future expansions into exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and bonds. The long-term goal is to establish a unified framework where various asset classes—including stocks, bonds, Treasuries, and DeFi yields—can function cohesively. This positions Reality not only as a product but as critical infrastructure, with the ambition of redefining “tokenized assets” simply as “assets.”
Reality introduces several innovative features aimed at overcoming challenges faced by previous RWA products. Each rToken is reportedly fully backed by real securities held by regulated brokers, with reserve ratios exceeding 100% and transparently visible on-chain. This over-collateralized structure seeks to bolster user confidence, ensuring that the tokens accurately represent the value of their underlying assets.
Liquidity is a significant focus, with Reality sourcing institutional-grade liquidity directly from licensed brokers associated with Nasdaq and NYSE, intending to bring the depth and execution quality of traditional markets into the tokenized space. Dividends are distributed in stablecoins, which helps maintain stable token pricing in alignment with the underlying stock, avoiding the pitfalls of rebasing or reinvestment errors.
The platform also features 24/5 minting and redemption capabilities, enabling users to create or redeem rTokens at any time during the trading week. Reality claims to have developed a flexible settlement model that accommodates both real-time and asynchronous settlement, allowing share transactions to be executed instantaneously through licensed brokers, facilitating efficient token minting and burning.
Accessibility is another hallmark of Reality, which supports fractional tokens to lower the barriers for users seeking exposure to high-value assets without having to purchase a whole share-equivalent token. Furthermore, the platform is designed to be permissionless and DeFi compatible, meaning rTokens can be freely transferred, utilized as collateral, or integrated into various DeFi protocols without restrictions.
Transparency is a core principle of Reality’s infrastructure, which is regulated, audited, and over-collateralized. Reserve holdings are independently verified by The Network Firm, a licensed CPA firm, with reports made publicly accessible. Additionally, the smart contracts have undergone independent security reviews, with the corresponding audit reports available for user inspection.
Bitget designed Reality to tackle two main issues that have historically hindered tokenized assets: inadequate liquidity and complications surrounding corporate actions. By uniting regulated backing, stablecoin dividends, continuous minting and redemption, and DeFi compatibility, the company asserts that it has created a more refined platform for issuing on-chain securities.
For Bitget, the launch of Reality signifies more than just a new product—it represents a conviction that the future of capital markets will not be bifurcated into traditional finance and cryptocurrency. Instead, it envisions a unified infrastructure that enables seamless transitions between both realms, which, if successful, could lead to a paradigm where tokenized stocks function normally within a borderless and always-on financial system.
