Bitget is making strides in the financial landscape by introducing Stock+, a new service that allows eligible users to purchase real U.S. equities using their digital assets. This innovative approach enables users to convert their cryptocurrencies into USDC (a digital stablecoin) to buy shares in publicly listed American companies. Unlike traditional methods that involve synthetic crypto products, Stock+ facilitates transactions through regulated brokerage firms, ensuring direct ownership of the underlying shares.
The initiative reflects a growing trend among crypto investors who are seeking to diversify their portfolios by bridging the gap between cryptocurrency and traditional stock markets. One of the features of Stock+ is that it provides tangible ownership benefits, such as cash dividends and adjustments from stock splits, thereby solidifying its structural integrity over tokenized stocks or derivatives that offer price tracking without actual ownership.
Accessing U.S. equities from outside the United States can often be a convoluted process requiring local brokers and banks, but Stock+ streamlines this by allowing users to fund purchases directly with cryptocurrencies. Investors can deposit accepted digital assets, convert them to USDC, and proceed to invest without the need for conventional international transactions. Additionally, the platform supports inbound share transfers from participating brokers, enabling users to consolidate various equity and crypto holdings in a single environment.
Though Stock+ simplifies the trading process, it maintains adherence to regulatory frameworks governing stock ownership, custody, and trading, ensuring compliance with brokerage rules and market hours. This interface separates it from the tokenized equity offerings that Bitget also launched earlier in June, branded as Stocks 2.0, which focuses on blockchain-based economic exposure without granting actual share ownership.
Bitget now lists more than 500 U.S. stocks and ETFs within its ecosystem, boasting over $50 million in assets under management for its associated tokenized offerings. With both Stock+ and Stocks 2.0, users have multiple options for approaching stock investments, adapting their strategies based on individual risk tolerance and goals.
The launch of Stock+ signifies a broader evolution within the crypto sector, as exchanges aim to offer comprehensive financial services that encompass not just digital tokens, but also stocks, commodities, and other asset classes. For Bitget, this strategy could enhance user retention by keeping investors engaged on a single platform. By enabling users to analyze market data and acquire real equities without switching applications, Bitget positions itself as a universal financial hub.
Stock+ trading fees start at a competitive rate of 0.1%, with a promotional discount of 50% available until August 31, 2026. However, users remain advised to understand the implications of their investment decisions, including the inherent risks associated with both stocks and digital assets, as well as the nuances of ownership models available on the platform. Ultimately, Bitget appears committed to evolving its service offerings to compete in a multi-asset financial ecosystem.
