Bitlayer, a prominent Bitcoin layer 2 network, has announced its migration to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) to enhance its transfer capabilities with the Ethereum network. This significant move enables secure and efficient transfers of multiple tokens, including Bitlayer’s native token BTR, as well as established stablecoins such as USDC and USDT, and Ethereum assets like ETH and wstETH.

The integration of CCIP marks a strategic step for Bitlayer as it seeks to bolster liquidity within its ecosystem and improve the functionality of Bitcoin’s decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. As part of its roadmap, Bitlayer has plans to introduce YBTC, a Bitcoin-pegged asset, to be natively supported across chains via the CCIP, indicating ongoing efforts to expand its offerings and user capabilities.

This transition to Chainlink’s interoperability standard is seen as a pivotal enhancement for Bitlayer, providing a robust framework for cross-chain transactions, thereby promoting higher engagement and usage across both Bitlayer and Ethereum platforms. By embracing this technology, Bitlayer aims to position itself as a key player in the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies.
