Brandin Cooks Staying Positive Despite Limited Role with Bills

In Orchard Park, wide receiver Brandin Cooks recently expressed his gratitude for the chance to play with the Buffalo Bills following a challenging season with the New Orleans Saints. After requesting his release from the Saints, Cooks aimed to join a playoff contender, and the Bills answered that call. Despite limited involvement in the first two games—logging only 25 passing snaps and receiving just two targets from quarterback Josh Allen—Cooks maintains an optimistic outlook.

Cooks, who is in his twelfth NFL season, remarked on his initial experiences with the Bills as he prepares for a critical matchup against the New England Patriots. He acknowledged his modest role thus far but refrained from expressing frustration. Instead, he emphasized a thankful attitude towards the Saints and acknowledged that developing chemistry with Allen and adapting to the team’s offense will come with time. His positive mindset reflects a commitment to taking advantage of opportunities as they arise.

Offensive coordinator Joe Brady praised Cooks for his professionalism and dedication, noting that despite every wide receiver’s natural desire to be more involved, Cooks is prioritizing team success. The Bills’ receiving corps has struggled recently, with a total of just 12 catches for 101 yards in their last two games, underscoring the need for a more dynamic aerial attack.

As the Bills look to enhance their offensive strategy, both quarterback Josh Allen and fellow receiver Khalil Shakir emphasized that Cooks is integrating well into the team. Allen recognized Cooks’ work ethic and experience, asserting that this professionalism will continually benefit the Bills. Shakir echoed these sentiments, highlighting Cooks’ ability to quickly grasp the playbook and contribute positively to team morale.

While the team hopes for the return of Joshua Palmer, the urgency for Cooks to become more of an offensive threat is clear. The Bills signed him to provide a vertical option in their passing game, which has been lacking. Cooks has expressed his belief in his ability to make impactful plays and is approaching the process with patience and confidence in the coaching staff and his teammates.

Historically, the team has seen mixed results with veteran additions like Amari Cooper. While the circumstances with Cooks appear initial similar, there remains optimism that he will find his footing and make a significant contribution as the season progresses. “When those opportunities come, I do believe I can help change the game for the better,” Cooks stated, reinforcing his determination to make an impact once fully acclimated to his new team.
