A man from California has pled guilty in federal court to his role in a violent kidnapping plot that took place in Danbury, Connecticut, related to a significant Bitcoin theft. Adam Iza, 25, faced charges of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery. His sentencing is scheduled for August 12, where he could receive a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

The charges stem from an incident on August 25, 2024, when Danbury police apprehended six individuals from Florida who were implicated in carjacking a Lamborghini Urus and subsequently kidnapping two individuals inside the vehicle. The victims in this troubling case were the parents of a person who had previously stolen hundreds of millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Iza, along with his co-conspirators, targeted the parents in an attempt to extort some of the stolen cryptocurrency.

The events that led to the kidnapping were reportedly set in motion when one of Iza’s alleged accomplices had a confrontation with the victims’ son at a nightclub in Miami in July 2024. In the days leading up to the kidnapping, this individual maintained contact with the kidnappers, providing them with funds and assisting in the arrangement of their travel and accommodations.

Iza played a pivotal role in the orchestration of the plot, utilizing his cellphone and encrypted messaging applications to communicate with the kidnappers. He advised them on executing the plan and contributed financially to the operation.

Since September 24, 2024, Iza has been in custody due to unrelated federal charges in California. All six other individuals charged in connection with the carjacking and kidnapping have entered guilty pleas. The case remains under investigation by the FBI, alongside the Danbury police.
