A person has come forward claiming to have crucial information regarding the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, mother of TODAY Show host Savannah Guthrie, which took place in February. According to a report by TMZ, the individual asserts that they possess video footage of Nancy with her alleged kidnapper, as well as other identifying details about the incident.
In an email sent to TMZ, the source stated, “I have a phone stashed in a secure location guaranteeing both the information it stores and the safety of the phone.” The individual claims that the contents of the phone include a brief video showing the kidnapper and Nancy on what they describe as possibly her last day alive, along with accompanying photographs, names, addresses, and ages of those involved. The informant further suggested that multiple people were implicated in Nancy’s kidnapping.
The source proposed that they would reveal the location and password of the phone in exchange for one Bitcoin. In response to this email, TMZ reported the information to the FBI.
Earlier this week, Savannah Guthrie spoke emotionally about a ransom letter tied to her mother’s prolonged disappearance, confirming the tragedy of Nancy’s death at the age of 84. This revelation came as reporters highlighted a second note related to the case, citing law enforcement sources.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on February 1, when her doorbell camera captured movement outside her Tucson home. Shortly thereafter, her pacemaker app reportedly disconnected from her phone. In the weeks following her disappearance, volunteers and search teams scoured the nearby desert, which is difficult terrain filled with cacti and boulders, but no sign of her was found. A recent search was conducted near the Arizona-Mexico border, although it did not yield any results.
The FBI investigated various leads and even released a photographic depiction of a suspect they believed was involved in Nancy’s kidnapping. Reports indicated that some news outlets had received ransom notes in the days following her abduction.
CNN disclosed that it had knowledge of the content of one ransom note, while a Tucson TV station reported receiving two such communications. Both news organizations chose to withhold the notes’ contents from the public to preserve the authenticity of any future correspondence with the kidnappers.
In a heartfelt plea to the public, Savannah urged anyone with information regarding her mother’s case to contact the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI, emphasizing that even the smallest piece of information could help. “The reward is there. Please, do the right thing for us, for our family, for our children,” she implored.
