Coinone is making significant strides toward transforming itself into a blockchain-based comprehensive financial entity, fueled by recent equity investments from Korea Investment & Securities and OKX. During a recent press briefing at the company’s office in Yeouido’s Parc1 Tower, Chief Executive Officer Cha Myunghoon articulated a vision that extends far beyond operating a conventional virtual-asset exchange.

Cha emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that it effectively merges the reliability of traditional finance with cutting-edge technological innovation, particularly as the market shifts towards tokenized securities (STOs) and expanding digital assets. He labeled Korea Investment & Securities and OKX as the ideal partners for Coinone’s next phase, combining essential trust and pioneering tech capabilities necessary for future growth.

Last month, both firms each acquired a 20% stake in Coinone, positioning them as joint third-largest shareholders. Cha insists that this investment transcends mere equity acquisition; it represents a pivotal step towards institutionalizing the digital-asset industry, aimed at earning the trust of both consumers and regulatory bodies. With a burgeoning base of 13 million virtual-asset investors, the partnership is poised to create a solid foundation for the sector’s legitimacy.

Korea Investment & Securities is set to offer crucial compliance and risk management expertise, while OKX will enhance Coinone’s capabilities with its advanced global trading infrastructure and Web3 technology. The integration of strengths from these key players is expected to foster the development of a unique digital-finance ecosystem, one that Cha believes will be difficult for others to replicate.

Looking ahead, Coinone has laid out a strategic roadmap. In the immediate term, the company plans to leverage its new partners’ strengths to fortify its leadership position within South Korea’s virtual-asset market. Over a longer horizon, Coinone envisions launching a suite of digital financial products, including tokenized securities and stablecoins, ultimately aspiring to evolve into a global platform for comprehensive financial services. This ambitious vision underscores Coinone’s commitment to leading the way in the rapidly changing landscape of digital finance.
