A recent post by popular cryptocurrency analyst Ali Martinez has spotlighted Elon Musk, who is now recognized as the world’s first trillionaire, for his ownership of Bitcoin and Dogecoin. In a tweet, Martinez creatively illustrated Musk alongside the Bitcoin logo, stating, “The world’s first TRILLIONAIRE owns Bitcoin. Let that sink in.” This remark underscores Musk’s unique position in the cryptocurrency landscape.
Both of Musk’s prominent companies, SpaceX and Tesla, reportedly hold significant amounts of Bitcoin in their reserves. Indeed, these two companies are among the only ten in the world by market capitalization that hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets. SpaceX has approximately 18,712 BTC valued at around $1.29 billion, although current market prices would reduce this valuation to about $1.19 billion. Tesla possesses 11,509 BTC, which is worth over $734 million according to on-chain data.
While Musk’s personal Bitcoin holdings remain unclear, a disclosure from 2020 indicated that he owned just 0.25 BTC. There has yet to be an update on Musk’s personal Bitcoin stash since then, leaving much speculation in the crypto community.
Musk has also made headlines in connection with Dogecoin, often referred to as the ‘DogeFather.’ Martinez shared a sketch of Musk holding the Dogecoin mascot, referencing Musk’s admission in 2018 that he owns “some” Dogecoin alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, the precise amount remains undisclosed. Unlike Bitcoin, Musk’s companies do not have any Dogecoin recorded on their balance sheets.
Musk has consistently reinvigorated interest in Dogecoin with his playful tweets. Earlier this year, he suggested that SpaceX may place the popular meme-based cryptocurrency “on the moon” in the near future, further bolstering the community’s excitement surrounding it.
In the arena of cryptocurrency and investments, the revelation that the world’s first trillionaire has vested interests in both Bitcoin and Dogecoin has created ripples of discussion, especially as the market continues to evolve.
