Garrett Dutton, widely recognized as G. Love, recently shared a distressing experience on social media, revealing that he fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam that resulted in the loss of his Bitcoin savings. The musician disclosed that while transitioning his digital assets to a new computer, he accidentally downloaded a malicious app masquerading as a legitimate Ledger application from the Apple Store. This error led to the immediate disappearance of all his Bitcoin holdings.
In his emotional post, Dutton expressed his frustration and disbelief, stating, “All my BTC gone in an instant.” He went on to confront skeptics who questioned his honesty about the incident, defiantly challenging his critics by saying, “Fuck all yall haters that called me a liar.” His announcement laid bare a significant financial loss, with the 5.9 Bitcoin he lost valued at around $443,000 at the time.
Reflecting on his time in the cryptocurrency world, Dutton mentioned that he had been involved since 2017, emphasizing the risks inherent in this digital landscape. He acknowledged that failure to remain vigilant contributed to his predicament and urged others to be cautious, noting, “There’s so many scams.”
In the aftermath of the theft, Dutton communicated with KuCoin, a cryptocurrency exchange that the thieves allegedly utilized to launder the stolen funds. The platform responded to him on social media, indicating that they took immediate action by temporarily freezing the suspicious account for seven days. Additionally, reports confirmed that Apple had removed the fraudulent app from its store after Dutton made them aware of the issue.
A representative for G. Love did not respond to inquiries for further comments. He continued to express feelings of vulnerability, remarking on the hard work everyone puts in to support their families and how quickly everything can be lost if one is momentarily careless.
G. Love is best known for fronting the band G. Love and Special Sauce, which garnered significant popularity in the 1990s and early 2000s with hits such as “Stepping Stones” and “Rodeo Clowns.” Their latest album, Ode to L.R., was released last year, showcasing the band’s enduring presence in the music industry.
