Germany has clinched its second EuroBasket championship, showcasing a remarkable ascent in international basketball. The team triumphed over Turkey with an 88-83 victory, marking its first EuroBasket title since 1993. This win follows Germany’s success earlier this year at the FIBA Basketball World Cup and reinforces its strong performance in recent tournaments, as it secures a historic dual reign by holding both the FIBA World Cup and EuroBasket titles—a feat achieved by only three other teams.

The final match, held in Riga, Latvia, was a nail-biter filled with excitement, featuring 15 lead changes. Turkey had entered the fourth quarter leading the game, but NBA veteran Dennis Schröder contributed critical back-to-back shots that shifted momentum in Germany’s favor. Schröder, who plays for the Sacramento Kings, finished the game with 16 points and 12 assists, earning him the EuroBasket MVP title. Isaac Bonga, formerly of the Los Angeles Lakers and now an essential player for Germany, topped the scoring charts with 20 points, also being recognized as the game’s standout performer.

Turkey showcased its prowess throughout the tournament, advancing to the finals with an impressive undefeated record. They had previously taken down notable teams including Serbia, highlighting their emergence as a formidable opponent. In the final, Alperen Şengün of the Houston Rockets led Turkey’s offense with 28 points, while former NBA player Cedi Osman contributed significantly with 23 points.

In the bronze medal match, Greece, led by star player Giannis Antetokounmpo, secured third place with a narrow 92-89 victory over Finland. Antetokounmpo delivered a stellar performance, recording 30 points, 17 rebounds, and six assists, marking his fourth instance in the tournament of a 20-10-5 statistic. His achievements have propelled Greece to its first podium finish since 2009, a significant milestone following their last championship win in 2005.

Finland’s journey to the semifinals proved historic, being their best-ever finish at EuroBasket. Despite a valiant effort in the third-place game, they could not overcome a sizeable deficit. Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen, Finland’s standout player throughout the tournament, closed his campaign with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Greece.

The tournament showcased emerging talent, particularly with young players like Miikka Muurinen, who made a notable impression as the youngest competitor in the event. Overall, EuroBasket 2025 demonstrated the growing competitiveness of European basketball, with several teams showing promise for the future.
