Consumers are embracing the latest iPhone 17 series, particularly in Apple stores across Shanghai, China, where the new models have drawn significant attention since their launch on October 13, 2025. Despite some criticism over the iPhone 17 Pro’s striking fluorescent orange color, dubbed “Cosmic Orange,” the device has successfully captured a fanbase along with investor interest.
According to data from Counterpoint, the iPhone 17 lineup, which includes the base model, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the ultra-slim iPhone Air, is outperforming its predecessor in both the U.S. and China. Remarkably, the iPhone Air sold out within minutes of its release in China, as reported by the South China Morning Post. This surge in demand has translated to a nearly 4% increase in Apple’s stock price, closing at an unprecedented high. Such a development is beneficial for CEO Tim Cook and shareholders, especially as Apple had been lagging behind other tech giants known as the “Magnificent 7.” Currently, Apple’s growth this year stands at approximately 5%, notably behind competitors like Nvidia and Meta, which have seen gains of 36% and 25%, respectively.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s cloud computing service, Amazon Web Services, faced a major setback on the same day, experiencing an outage that affected numerous online platforms including Reddit and Snapchat. Despite this technical glitch, Amazon’s shares managed to rise by around 1.6%. Broader U.S. markets also showed positive movement, with major indexes concluding the day in the green.
As investors turn their attention toward upcoming trade developments between the U.S. and China, they are also preparing for earnings reports from notable companies including Netflix, Tesla, and Intel.
In other news, tensions between the U.S. and Ukraine escalated during a recent meeting at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Discussions revolved around the potential provision of long-range cruise missiles, with Zelenskyy reportedly leaving the meeting without new commitments and facing disapproval from Trump. The U.S. President suggested that Ukraine should concede eastern territories, including Donbas, to Russia in a bid to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict.
