In a significant leadership shift within the motorsports community, Tom Garfinkel, Managing Partner of the FORMULA 1® CRYPTO.COM MIAMI GRAND PRIX and South Florida Motorsports, has announced that Katharina Nowak has been appointed as the new President of the FORMULA 1® CRYPTO.COM MIAMI GRAND PRIX. Nowak, who previously served as the Vice President of Business Operations for the event, has been instrumental in transforming the race into a premier global spectacle. At only 28 years old, she marks a historic milestone as the youngest individual to hold the presidential position in the series, and one of just two women worldwide in this elite role.

Nowak steps into her new position following Tyler Epp, the previous president who successfully guided the organization through its formative years starting in 2022. Under Epp’s leadership, the Grand Prix achieved remarkable milestones, including being honored as the 2024 Formula 1® Promoter of the Year. The event also noted consecutive sellout races and demonstrated consistent growth in areas such as attendance and sponsorship revenues. Epp has decided to leave the organization to accept a significant opportunity within the motorsports sector.

Expressing her enthusiasm about the new role, Nowak stated, “I am both humbled and excited to take on this new responsibility as President. I want to thank Steve Ross, Tom, and Tyler for their vision, investment, and leadership. Our goals remain unchanged—we will continue to deliver an exceptional event for our stakeholders, with elite on-track action and a fan-first experience at the center of everything we do.” Nowak, a native of Vienna, Austria, holds a degree in advertising and public relations from Loyola University Chicago. Her journey with the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium enterprise began in 2019, where she progressed through various roles before overseeing the business operations for the Grand Prix in 2023.

In addition to Nowak’s promotion, Garfinkel announced the elevation of John Murphy to Managing Director of South Florida Motorsports. Murphy will expand his leadership responsibilities overseeing all motorsport events at the Miami International Autodrome, including the Precision Drive Club. Previously, he served as Vice President of Sporting & Racing Operations and has been involved with the FORMULA 1® CRYPTO.COM MIAMI GRAND PRIX since its inception.

A Melbourne native, Murphy brings more than seven years of experience from Motorsport Australia, where he handled business development and commercial operations for the FIA-sanctioned governing body. His career trajectory also includes a significant stint at the North Melbourne Football Club, where he rose to the position of general manager of marketing and fan development.

The announcements come as the Miami Grand Prix prepares to build on its early successes and eagerly anticipates continued growth and evolution in the competitive world of Formula 1®.
