Residents of the Northwest Valley are increasingly feeling the consequences of the ongoing conflict in Iran, particularly regarding rising gas prices, which have recently surpassed $5 per gallon in Southern Nevada. However, the ramifications extend beyond fuel costs to the availability and pricing of various household goods, including flooring, pharmaceuticals, computer chips, and notably, cleaning supplies.
Kevin Gamboa, owner of Centennial Home Cleaning, a local cleaning service based in Northwest Las Vegas, discussed how these issues are subtly reshaping his business landscape. Established two years ago, the company focuses on residential cleaning and serves the broader Las Vegas area.
Gamboa shared that while his business has yet to experience significant supply shortages for cleaning products, a looming concern exists. “We have back stock of a lot of our supplies, so we haven’t gone shopping for anything yet. Will that happen in the future? It’s a possibility,” he noted, reflecting on the uncertainties related to shipping routes impacted by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition to supply chain concerns, the business is acutely affected by soaring fuel costs. Gamboa pointed out that the increased price of gas has substantially elevated operational costs. “Driving to Henderson, for example, now feels much more expensive. If our provider is in Centennial, it’s a 50-minute drive one way and then the same back, which has doubled our transportation costs,” he explained.
In response to these challenges, Centennial Home Cleaning has adjusted its strategy by optimizing the routes for its cleaning staff to minimize travel distances, keeping them closer to their service areas. However, Gamboa noted that the overall demand for his services has seen a downturn as many customers reassess their financial situations amid rising living costs. “While we didn’t raise our prices, everything else has. We’ve had a few of our recurring customers, who feel like friends and family at this point, tell us that times are tough,” he said.
Despite these hurdles, Gamboa emphasized the importance of flexibility and preparation in weathering the economic storm. “The best way to tackle that is to do as we’ve been doing—stay prepared and buy in bulk when you can,” he concluded.
As the Northwest Valley continues to navigate the impacts of international tensions and economic shifts, local businesses like Centennial Home Cleaning are adapting to stay afloat while supporting their clients through challenging times. Residents and business owners alike are encouraged to remain vigilant and proactive as they respond to these evolving circumstances.
