Residents in Logan County are being urged to remain vigilant following a rise in scam incidents throughout Ohio. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning on social media, detailing a concerning case where a Northern Ohio resident lost $9,300 to fraudulent activity earlier this month.
The scam involved an unidentified individual dressed in a standard Ohio Sheriff’s uniform who approached a victim in Lorain County. The impersonator falsely claimed that there was an arrest warrant out for the victim and instructed them to deposit cash in Bitcoin to prevent their arrest.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of recognizing such scams, stating, “Please DO NOT fall for this, as Law enforcement will never contact you by phone that you have an arrest warrant.” They urged citizens to remain cautious and to report any similar calls to their local law enforcement agency to help combat the spread of these fraudulent practices.
Residents are reminded to be skeptical of unsolicited phone calls and to verify any claims made by individuals claiming to be law enforcement. The sheriff’s office continues to monitor the situation and advocate for public awareness to protect the community from falling victim to such scams.
