Minnesota Schools Close or Open Late as Winter Storm Approaches

A significant winter storm is set to impact Minnesota, prompting a growing number of schools to either close or delay their openings on Tuesday. Meteorologists at WCCO have issued a NEXT Weather Alert, signaling the arrival of snow in the Twin Cities by Tuesday afternoon. The weather forecast indicates a sharp contrast between areas receiving snow and those experiencing a wintry mix.

As the storm progresses, there may be a brief period of dry weather in the evening before snow returns to the metro area, expected to persist into early Wednesday. Predictions suggest that parts of northern and eastern Minnesota could see accumulations of four to seven inches, while the southwest metro area may receive one to three inches. Areas south of Interstate 94 are likely to experience a mix of snow and rain, with some regions encountering pockets of freezing drizzle.

Travelers should remain cautious, as blowing snow is anticipated to create challenging conditions, especially in western and southern parts of Minnesota on Tuesday night. As temperatures are forecasted to drop into the 20s on Wednesday, the cold snap will persist, with highs expected to struggle to reach double digits this weekend, accompanied by severe subzero wind chills.

In light of the impending winter weather, several schools have proactively announced early closures or delayed openings in anticipation of the storm’s impact. Families are encouraged to stay updated and check the latest announcements regarding school schedules.
