MoonPay has unveiled a groundbreaking app that allows users to purchase virtual assets directly through ChatGPT, marking a significant development in the integration of financial services with conversational AI technology.
Announced on May 28, the newly launched app is available in the ChatGPT app store and is seamlessly integrated into the OpenAI platform. Users are now able to explore and purchase a diverse range of over 100 virtual assets, including popular options like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and USD Coin (USDC). The app facilitates transactions across more than 30 blockchain networks, making it a versatile tool for cryptocurrency enthusiasts.
Within the ChatGPT interface, users can engage in conversations, inquire about specific virtual assets, specify the type of asset they wish to purchase, and indicate the desired amount. Following their queries, they receive a personalized purchase link that directs them to the MoonPay Checkout. This checkout platform prioritizes user security by incorporating robust measures such as Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols, compliance verification, and anti-fraud procedures.
As part of its vision for the future, MoonPay aims to extend its on-ramp capabilities to additional AI platforms and large language model (LLM) interfaces. This expansion aligns with a growing trend in consumer financial behavior, which is increasingly leaning toward conversational interfaces. The company’s efforts are geared towards enhancing the accessibility of digital assets and improving payment experiences across a wide array of AI platforms.
Bukon Lee, co-founder and Asia head of MoonPay, highlighted the significance of this launch by stating, “The fact that MoonPay is the first and only on-ramp provider to be integrated with the ChatGPT app is a clear indication that the entry point for financial services is shifting towards conversational environments.” This integration is viewed as a pivotal step in the evolution of how financial transactions can be conducted in a more user-friendly and accessible manner through AI technologies.
