Moyes keen on Grealish stay despite hefty price tag

David Moyes has expressed a strong desire to keep Jack Grealish at Everton beyond the current season, although he acknowledged that the midfielder’s £50 million price tag poses a significant challenge for the club. Grealish has been a standout performer since joining Everton on loan from Manchester City, playing a vital role in the team’s recent success, including scoring the all-important goal that secured their first league win at Bournemouth this week.

Under his loan agreement, Everton has the option to buy Grealish for £50 million next summer, coinciding with him entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. When asked about Grealish’s future at Everton, Moyes stated, “Yes, I do. I am still giving him the electric prod – keep going – and making sure I am getting more out of him every week.” He also emphasized the need for Grealish to consistently showcase his capabilities as he approaches a crucial juncture in his career.

Moyes expressed concerns about the fee associated with Grealish, indicating that negotiating the cost would likely be necessary. “We would have to alter that £50m fee. I don’t think we would be in that ball game,” he stated, adding that Grealish’s age complicates the financial aspect. However, Moyes noted the positive connection Grealish has built with both the Everton supporters and the club, which could potentially influence his decision to stay.

Drawing parallels with Jesse Lingard’s previous loan spell at West Ham, Moyes highlighted the importance of creating a strong rapport between players and clubs, suggesting that Grealish’s burgeoning relationship with Everton’s fanbase may play a pivotal role in his future.

In Chelsea’s camp, Enzo Maresca raised critical observations regarding the team’s performance when rotating players. Following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Leeds, concerns have surfaced about whether the squad can maintain a competitive edge while managing a taxing schedule. Maresca admitted that employing a rotation system often compromises the team’s quality, especially when key players are rested to avoid injuries.

After bringing in several substitutes for the match, Maresca reflected on the different skill levels of his squad and acknowledged that the team did not perform as effectively without their first-choice players. However, he’s hopeful that the strategy of resting certain stars will yield positive results in their upcoming fixture against Bournemouth.

John Terry’s suggestion to abandon the rotation strategy in favor of a more consistent starting lineup has sparked discussions among pundits and fans. Maresca responded to this by emphasizing the need for further evaluation of the team’s dynamics, particularly when dealing with games played frequently.

Meanwhile, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will be sidelined for a few more weeks due to a hamstring injury that has contributed to the team’s vulnerable defense. City has already conceded six goals in their last two matches, sparking concern among fans as they await Rodri’s return.

Guardiola highlighted the significant impact Rodri has on the team dynamics, stating that his presence makes a crucial difference in the performance of his teammates. Not only is Rodri a key player in terms of skill, but his ability to instill confidence in others on the pitch makes him irreplaceable in the squad.

In other news, Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has been handed a four-match suspension and a £15,000 fine for misconduct during a match against Leeds. The ruling came after an incident where Mejbri was found to have spat at opposing fans, which led to significant repercussions.

As Burnley grapples with its position at the bottom of the Premier League table, the club is facing mounting pressure to secure crucial points in their upcoming match against Newcastle.

Finally, at Newcastle, sporting director Ross Wilson is prioritizing contract negotiations for key defenders Tino Livramento and Sven Botman. With their contracts set to expire soon, the urgency of extending their agreements has become a focal point for the club.

As they prepare for a match against Burnley, manager Eddie Howe will be without Botman, although he remains hopeful that new signing Yoane Wissa may soon return to action as he continues recovering from injury. Meanwhile, West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo confirmed Lucas Paquetá’s return from suspension for their upcoming game against Brighton, expressing confidence in his player’s commitment to avoid future errors.
