In a troubling development in the case of Nancy Guthrie, TMZ reported on Wednesday morning that it received a threatening message demanding Bitcoin in exchange for information regarding her disappearance. The message, which was sent to the media outlet, stated, “If they want the name of the individual involved then I want 1 Bitcoin to the following wallet. Time is more than relevant.” Along with the demand, the note included a specific Bitcoin wallet address, indicating a serious motive behind the communication. The sender also claimed to have attempted to contact Savannah Guthrie’s siblings but was unsuccessful.
In response to this alarming message, TMZ has forwarded the note to the FBI, though it remains unclear whether the note’s legitimacy has been established. As of now, one Bitcoin is valued at approximately $66,000.
This development comes in the wake of law enforcement agencies releasing surveillance footage and still images of a suspect captured on a Nest camera outside of Nancy Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills. The footage depicts an individual wearing a mask, jacket, gloves, and pants while carrying a backpack. FBI investigators have identified this person as a suspect in Nancy Guthrie’s case, suggesting he is a man believed to be armed.
The video shows the suspect attempting to obscure the camera’s view before returning to the front door, at one point holding a flashlight in his mouth and trying to cover the doorbell camera using what appears to be a plant or flowers. Investigators have noted evidence suggesting the individual had a gun holstered on his waistband.
Shortly after the release of this footage, Savannah Guthrie took to Instagram to share the images and appeal to the public for information concerning her missing mother. In her post, she expressed her belief that her mother is still alive and urged anyone with information to contact law enforcement, stating, “Bring her home.”
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 after being dropped off at her Tucson-area residence and was reported missing the next day when she failed to attend church services. Authorities are treating the case as a kidnapping, believing she was taken against her will. The situation remains both urgent and concerning as family and authorities continue to search for answers.
