In a significant development for the artificial intelligence sector, AI chip startup Groq has inked an agreement with industry leader Nvidia to enhance and scale its technology. The collaboration was publicly announced Wednesday through a blog post from Groq, which revealed that key figures within the organization, including Founder Jonathan Ross and President Sunny Madra, will transition to Nvidia to drive the advancement of the licensed technology. Despite this partnership, Groq will maintain its independent operations, with Simon Edwards stepping up as Chief Executive Officer. The company’s operations, particularly GroqCloud, are set to continue without any interruptions.
The details surrounding this deal were first highlighted in an exclusive report by CNBC, which suggested that Nvidia is acquiring Groq’s assets for a substantial $20 billion in cash. This acquisition is particularly noteworthy given that Alex Davis, the CEO of Disruptive—an investment firm heavily involved in Groq’s financial backing—has reported that his company has invested over half a billion dollars in Groq over the past nine years.
According to Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang, the integration of Groq’s low-latency processors is aimed at enriching the Nvidia AI factory architecture, thereby extending its capabilities to cover a wider array of AI inference and real-time workloads. This agreement marks Nvidia’s largest deal to date, further consolidating its dominance in the AI chip market.
Nvidia has been experiencing remarkable financial success lately, generating $57 billion in revenue during the third quarter of 2025—exceeding analysts’ expectations by an impressive $2 million. The outlook for the fourth quarter appears even brighter, with analysts predicting continued growth. Huang emphasized the overwhelming demand for the company’s Blackwell chips, stating, “Sales are off the charts,” and noted that their cloud GPUs are currently sold out.
This partnership between Groq and Nvidia is poised to reshape the landscape of AI technology, blending Groq’s innovative processors with Nvidia’s established platform, ultimately driving advancements in various AI applications.
