In a notable recognition, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has been honored as the Business Leader of the Year for 2026 by the Harvard Business School Association of Northern California. The award was presented during a formal dinner held at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco, a venue celebrated for its elegance and historical significance.

Garlinghouse has been praised for his adept leadership in scaling Ripple, emphasizing a long-term vision amidst the rapidly evolving landscape of the cryptocurrency industry. Under his guidance, the company has undertaken significant expansions, leveraging major acquisitions and securing global licenses while navigating the complexities of regulatory challenges, notably its legal battles with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Professor David B. Yoffie from Harvard Business School lauded Garlinghouse’s commitment to maintaining Ripple’s core business objectives while successfully growing a complex platform. He highlighted Garlinghouse’s “extraordinary ability” to manage this dual focus, which has been integral as the CEO marks 11 years with the company.

Garlinghouse’s career has been characterized by a series of strategic roles, having joined Ripple in April 2015 as chief operating officer after executive stints at AOL and Yahoo. He ascended to the position of CEO in 2016, following the invitation from co-founder Chris Larsen. Notably, at one point, Garlinghouse was also considering a role at Uber, which showcases the pivotal choices that led him into the forefront of the cryptocurrency sector.

Since the conclusion of its legal issues with the SEC, Ripple has continued to grow significantly. The company has made high-profile acquisitions, including GTreasury for $1 billion, and Hidden Road for $1.25 billion, the latter of which has been rebranded as Ripple Prime, a specialized clearing platform designed for institutional finance needs. Additionally, Ripple has secured essential licenses in various global markets, including an Electronic Money Institution license in the UK.

Ripple’s trajectory has also been bolstered by the rising interest in its XRP-related products following the launch of XRP spot ETFs last year, further cementing its position in the crypto market.

This prestigious award serves as a testament to Garlinghouse’s leadership and vision as Ripple continues to carve out an influential role across various aspects of cryptocurrency, including payments, custody, and the development of stablecoins aimed at institutional players.
