Ripple Prime has made a significant mark in the financial sector by winning the Best Prime Broker award at the 2026 Hedge Fund Services Awards Europe. This prestigious accolade recognizes prime brokers based on their client service, product development, and capability for sustainable business growth, positioning Ripple Prime amongst the most esteemed institutions in traditional finance rather than merely as a peripheral player in the cryptocurrency landscape.
The recognition bolsters Ripple Prime’s credentials as a serious prime brokerage operation. Notably, crypto commentator Xaif shared the news on social media, reflecting on the event’s significance for the cryptocurrency space, particularly for XRP. He stated that “the institution era for $XRP is here,” highlighting the shift in perception of XRP as it gains legitimacy within institutional finance.
Ripple Prime’s ascension to this esteemed position has been rapid, largely attributed to its acquisition of global prime brokerage firm Hidden Road in April 2025 for $1.25 billion. This landmark deal made Ripple the first crypto company to own and operate a fully global, multi-asset prime brokerage. Hidden Road brought with it a robust infrastructure, including a network of over 300 institutional clients and the facilitation of $10 billion in daily trade volume.
Following its rebranding to Ripple Prime, the firm quickly launched U.S. digital asset spot prime brokerage capabilities. This development allows clients to execute over-the-counter (OTC) spot transactions across significant digital assets and stablecoins, including XRP and RLUSD. The impact of these offerings has been substantial, with Ripple Prime witnessing a threefold increase in activity since its inception.
The implications of the award for XRP are noteworthy. Ripple Prime utilizes the XRP Ledger for settling transactions, integrating the token directly into its institutional operations. Each trade and settlement executed through Ripple Prime generates utility demand for XRP, which consequently fosters its institutional adoption and may influence its market price positively. Moreover, Ripple Prime has provided institutions with direct access to settlement rails that were previously unavailable on most blockchains. This recognition from a major European hedge fund award underscores the credibility of this infrastructure in the eyes of traditional finance.
Looking ahead, Ripple appears committed to further growth. In the past year, it has invested nearly $4 billion in strategic acquisitions, including Hidden Road and financial software provider GTreasury for $1 billion. Additionally, the company finalized a $500 million strategic investment, achieving a $40 billion valuation, led by heavyweight investors Fortress Investment Group and Citadel Securities.
The trajectory indicates that Ripple Prime will continue expanding its presence in the institutional finance landscape. As it strengthens its foothold in Europe and builds deeper relationships with hedge funds, XRP’s role as a settlement asset within this evolving ecosystem is poised to become increasingly pivotal. With momentum on its side, it seems that the institutional era for XRP has indeed begun.
