Royals Finalizing Five-Year Contract Extension with Infielder Maikel Garcia

The Kansas City Royals are reportedly finalizing a five-year contract extension with infielder Maikel Garcia, which includes a club option for a sixth season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Previously, Garcia was under club control until 2029, but this new agreement will secure him a guaranteed contract through the 2030 season. The deal also allows Kansas City to maintain control over two potential free-agent seasons for the 25-year-old player.

Garcia, who is set to turn 26 in March, has recently emerged as a significant contributor to the team, showcasing an impressive performance during the 2025 season that has caught the attention of management. With his recent success, he became arbitration-eligible for the first time this offseason, leading to projections from MLB Trade Rumors contributor Matt Swartz estimating his salary at approximately $4.8 million.

As a Super Two player, Garcia’s eligibility means he could have the chance for four rounds of arbitration, potentially leading to three additional raises in the coming years. The Royals appear committed to locking in Garcia’s future with the team, strengthening their roster for the seasons ahead. Further details regarding the contract and its implications for both the player and the organization are expected to be released shortly.
