As Easter approaches, many Americans are gearing up for festive gatherings, egg hunts, and special meals. Shoppers are reminded to plan accordingly, as some retailers will observe the holiday by shutting their doors. For those last-minute errands—be it picking up candy for the egg hunt or ingredients for a family feast—an updated list of operating stores on Sunday, April 5, is essential.

Several supermarkets and retail chains will remain open for last-minute shopping needs. Notably, CVS, Dollar General, Home Depot, Food Lion, Kroger, IKEA, Stop & Shop (though with pharmacies closed), Trader Joe’s, Walgreens, Walmart, and Whole Foods are among the stores welcoming customers. However, shoppers should be mindful that Whole Foods will have early closing hours, either at 6 p.m. or 8 p.m., depending on their location.

In terms of dining options, several popular fast-food and restaurant chains will be open to serve customers. Options include Applebee’s (though only at select locations), Domino’s, Dunkin’, IHOP, McDonald’s, Subway, and Taco Bell, providing plenty of choices for those looking to dine out or pick up takeout.

Conversely, there will be several notable closures on Easter Sunday. Retail giants such as ALDI, Costco, HomeGoods, Homesense, JCPenney, Kohl’s, Lowe’s, Nordstrom (with a few exceptions in California, Florida, and New York), Macy’s, Marshalls, Michaels, Target, TJ Maxx, and select Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods locations in Portland, Maine will all be closed.

Additionally, the stock market, which was closed for Good Friday on April 3, will resume trading on Monday, April 6, following the Easter holiday.

For those needing postal and shipping services over the holiday, the United States Postal Service will keep its retail locations open and continue regular delivery services. Conversely, FedEx will operate with limited services, maintaining operational hours at retail locations but restricting shipping options to FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Logistics. In a more comprehensive shutdown, all UPS services will remain closed for the day.

As the holiday draws closer, individuals are encouraged to finalize their plans and ensure they have everything they need for Easter celebrations to enjoy the day to its fullest.
