Tangem, a Swiss company established in 2017, has emerged as a prominent player in the cryptocurrency space by manufacturing hardware wallets designed for self-custody of digital assets. Headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, Tangem’s products are engineered to securely store various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin and Ethereum. The firm boasts that its cold wallet solutions are capable of supporting over 16,000 tokens across more than 90 blockchains, garnering trust in 170 countries.
Tangem’s primary products include a credit card-sized NFC hardware wallet and a ring-sized wearable wallet. Both devices interface with the Tangem app, enabling users to securely store, stake, swap, and spend their virtual assets. These wallets also support Visa payments and are compatible with popular mobile payment systems, Apple Pay and Google Pay, enhancing their usability.
The design philosophy behind Tangem centers on providing a mobile-native solution that merges the robust security of cold storage with the active management features of self-custody. This approach allows users to manage their cryptocurrency holdings through a single, streamlined interface.
In a recent development, Tangem announced that its line of crypto self-custody products is now available on its official website as well as in over 200 Best Buy stores. This move follows the product’s availability at major retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Virgin Megastore. According to Tangem’s Chief Technology Officer, Andrey Lazutkin, this rollout represents a significant step toward making secure and user-friendly hardware wallets accessible to a broader consumer base. He emphasized that this combination of security and ease of use had not been available at such a scale before, fundamentally altering the landscape of self-custody.
The expansion into Best Buy marks Tangem’s most substantial retail presence in the United States to date and reflects a growing consumer appetite for tools that enable direct ownership of cryptocurrency assets outside of centralized platforms.
